Wall paint colours: inspiration for every interior

Updated 5 Aug 2026

Wall colour changes how large, bright and warm a room feels. The best shade depends on daylight, furniture, floor finish and the purpose of the room.

Below you will find a curated overview of neutral, green, blue and warm shades, plus indicative coverage and paint prices.

Always test a sample directly on the wall. The same colour can look different on a north-facing wall, a south-facing wall and under evening lighting.

  • Start with daylight and the orientation of the room.
  • Coordinate the wall with the floor, doors, kitchen and large furniture.
  • Use stronger colours on one wall or in a niche when you want an accent.
  • Choose a washable finish in kitchens, hallways and children’s rooms.
  • Buy a sample and observe it in morning, afternoon and artificial light.

Frequently asked questions

How much paint do I need for a room?

Multiply the paintable wall area by the number of coats and divide by the manufacturer’s coverage. For a rough first estimate, common interior paint covers about 8–10 m² per litre in one coat; porous or uneven walls can need more.

Which paint works in a kitchen or bathroom?

Choose a washable interior paint with the resistance class specified by the manufacturer. In areas with direct water exposure, use a coating designed for that substrate and do not treat ordinary wall paint as waterproofing.

How do I match a colour from an interior photo?

A screen or photograph is not a reliable colour reference. Ask for the brand, colour system and code if available, then compare a physical sample in your own room and light.
